Coaches Association Holds General Meeting
The Bermuda Football Coaches Association [BFCA] held its annual general meeting recently at the National Sports Centre pavilion in Devonshire.
In his President’s Report, Scott Morton highlighted the achievements of the association over the past years since inception in 2013, and the progress made to date on accomplishing objectives of the strategic plan.
A spokesperson said, “To date the BFCA has conducted 5 courses since inheriting the “C” license and UEFA B license courses from ABC Football Foundation, with a total of 120 coaches successfully passing. There are currently 24 coaches who have attained the UEFA B license, helping to raise the standard of coaching on the island throughout the clubs.
“The relationships with UEFA coaching educator Jacques Crevoisier and the Scottish FA continue to strengthen and will provide more opportunities for coach education and program development to benefit the BFCA members in the future. The partnership with the Bermuda Football Association has provided support for coaches enrolling in the UEFA B license and aided the BFCA with the delivery of the “C” license courses on island.
“Prior to the election of executive members for the 2017-2018 year, Scott along with Vice President Derek Stapley and Secretary Germano Bothelho gave notice to the members in attendance that they would not be seeking reelection to their roles as executive officers. Scott and Derek were open to continuing to serve as executive members to ensure continuity for the organization and support for the new leadership to achieve the targets set forth in the strategic plan.
“The trio has served in their executive officer roles from the formation of the BFCA, and were thanked by the membership for their efforts to formally establish the organization as a professional body for coaches and continued delivery of the coaching education programs first offered by ABC Football.
“The membership voted to elect in new officers for the upcoming year. Richard Todd was the sole nomination for the office of President and was confirmed in the position by a strong majority of members from the floor. Maceo Dill and Scott Morton challenged for the position of Vice-President vacated by Derek Stapley, with Maceo confirmed in the position with a majority vote from the members present.
“Khomeni Talbot was the sole nomination for the office of Secretary and was confirmed in the role by a majority of the membership. Darran Reitze was returned unopposed to the position of Treasurer by the majority of members.
“In addition to the executive officers, the membership voted on candidates for the positions of executive members. The three previous members who held these positions: Vinzie Zuill, Aaron Lugo and Malcom Mosley declined to be considered again. Derek Stapley, Scott Morton, Andrew Bascome, Dennis Brown and Larry Smith were confirmed as executive members of the committee by the members present.
“Incoming President Richard Todd thanked the previous committee for their work and urged the new officers to be ready to work hard to build upon the foundation laid.
“The newly elected BFCA leader outlined a desire to see courses expanded to include: Introduction to Coaching, Goalkeeper Coaching exploring the option for a UEFA A license, establishing a Director of Coaching diploma as well as special topics presentations.
“Models for delivery of coach education will expand to introduce webinars and online courses. Increasing the public awareness of BFCA activities and creating more opportunities for coaches to interact, thus promoting more comradery amongst the coaching fraternity on the island.
“Maceo Dill spoke of his desire to unify the coaching fraternity and increase opportunities for more coaches to develop into roles that will aid clubs in building stronger programs.
“The BFCA will offer the next “C” license and UEFA B for qualified coaches in 2018. The “C” license course will be held over March 6-13, and the UEFA B will run from February 19-26 and September 11-17 with sessions held on island. The candidates will travel to Scotland for assessment during October 9-13, 2018.
