Twitterverse Praises Bermuda’s Olympic Team

February 9, 2018

The traditional Bermuda shorts worn by our Winter Olympic team have attracted attention in the Twitterverse after the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea today, with some even saying they think we deserve a gold medal simply for the shorts.

Tucker Murphy is representing Bermuda, with the cross-country skier making his third appearance at the Winter Olympics.

Dr. Murphy will compete in the Men’s 15K Free Individual Start cross-country ski event. He is accompanied by his Coach Pepa Miloucheva, and Assistant Coach/Waxer Jeff Shaw, as well as Chef de Mission Lawrence [Mike] Murphy, and Sean Field-Lament who will be representing the Executive Board of the BOA.

As is tradition, Dr. Murphy sported Bermuda shorts among athletes dressed mostly in warm winter gear given the chilly temperatures, and the ceremony included a large display of the Bermuda flag, as with all nations competing.’

Buzzfeed was quite impressed by our team’s attire, posting an article entitled “Someone Give Bermuda A Gold Medal For Wearing Bermuda Shorts To The Opening Ceremony.”

The Twitterverse had a lot to say on the matter, expressing concerns about their freezing legs,  voicing admiration for the team’s dedication to staying “on brand” and even calling for Bermuda to be awarded a gold medal for the team’s bravery.
