Minister Caines Thanks Bermuda Fire Service
“I wish to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the BF&RS for not only battling the marsh fire, but also for safeguarding and protecting the affected residents in the surrounding area,” said Minister of National Security Wayne Caines.
His comments follow after a fire broke out at Devonshire Marsh yesterday, with firefighters spending the day battling the fire, which started to spread in an easterly direction, threatening nearby properties.
Minister Caines visited the site of yesterday’s fire at Devonshire Marsh this morning, and also took the opportunity to publicly commend the members of the Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service [BFRS] for “effectively managing yesterday’s blaze.”
The Minister said, “Earlier this morning, I visited the scene of Devonshire Marsh to get an assessment of the damage. I received a thorough briefing from Acting Fire Chief Dana Lovell. This was a major fire, and we are grateful there wasn’t any serious injury or significant loss of property.
“I wish to extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the members of the BF&RS for not only battling the marsh fire, but also for safeguarding and protecting the affected residents in the surrounding area. The courage and bravery of BF&RS officers cannot be understated and they continue to do us proud.
“I also wish to thank members of the public for their assistance yesterday to the BF&RS. Their acts of kindness and generosity are impressive examples of what unites and strengthens our community.”
The BFRS extinguished the blaze late yesterday afternoon and reopened roads to traffic. They will continue to monitor the area.

The BFRS have also extended their thanks to the motoring public for their patience as they worked to get the flames under control, everyone who assisted by providing water to extinguish the flames, and also those who provided refreshments for firefighters as they worked.

Our fire fighters did a phenomenal job, and I would like to thank them too. If this had ended differently, I would not have a job to go to tomorrow. I work in the area and I am grateful for their hard work!
Absolutley! I echo the Ministers Statement! We should all be thankful to them.
Great work BFRS. I hear two cops went to hospital but no mention from the minister. I’m guessing it’s just a normal day for them.
BFR&S should invest in a good quality drone so they can quickly get a much better picture of big fires like this.
