Reminder: BOTC Bermuda Passport Holders
The Department of Immigration today [May 23] issued the following reminder to all British Overseas Territories Citizen [BOTC] Bermuda passport holders.
- Do not book/confirm travel plans unless you have a valid passport
- Generally, passports with a validity of six months or more may be used for travel before there is a requirement to apply for a new passport
- You can apply for a new passport up to four months prior the expiration of your existing passport
- Printing of BOTC passports is now done at Her Majesty’s Passport Office, UK and the processing timeline is between four to six weeks
- Strict guidelines apply for the processing of temporary passports in cases of emergency
The BOTC passport application form is online [only]; accessible via www.gov.bm
The Department thanks the public for their cooperation with this important reminder.
your department’s PR sucks and the govt website is not easy to search……you guys need to have a proper website with DIRECT LINKS to your info not this shot in the dark method employed by the govt website
The Department was designed by the OBA.
The PLP have been in long enough to buy themselves new limos, screw up garbage collection, lose half the buses, and open us up to unregulated bitcoin companies. You’d think one of the 7,000 civil servants could tidy up the website when not on their 70 days of sick leave.
Not going to be worth the paper it’s printed on soon.
I thought Walton brown the minister was working on getting them printed In Bermuda again like what is he doing
Why 4-6 weeks? Our renewal took 6 days…door to door. Much quicker than when it was done here. But still an important reminder!
Because it will sit on somebody’s desk for 5 weeks !
Ours didn’t. Complete and print form. Stick in envelope with any docs. Couriered directly to UK. (It was urgent) and 6 days later passport delivered to our house. No desk to sit on. Very efficient.
That’s a UK passport. A BOTC passport application is processed here first hence the long delay.
It would if it was here.
Last time I renewed my one it took two weeks. And I didn’t have to queue up here in Immigration Dept for an entire afternoon dealing with the miserable incompetents up there. That was a plus.
kinda silly and ill timed after the premiers declaration of where we are headed.then it will be as useless and have no worth as a bucket of horse do
We must be one of the only countries in the world with a 4 – 6 week wait for a simple renewal, and with no means of expediting the processing unless it is deemed an ‘emergency’…absolutely ridiculous.
Hey idiot every British Overseas Territories passports are done in the same manner. Thank the Queen for that!
10 days for the one that came back today. Thanks!
” Generally, passports with a validity of 6 months or more may be used for travel before there is a requirement to apply for a new passport
You can apply for a new passport up to 4 months prior the expiration of your existing passport”
Umm, is it just me or does there appear to be a 2 month gap in which I can have a valid Bermuda passport that the Bermuda Government says I cannot travel?
I agree with most of the comments on here, but if you remember some time ago the UK had a back log of some 60k (not sure of correct #) passport renewals. Dont be so quick to ridicule a process our immigration department has no control over.
Don’t be too eager to get our new passport. I hate it. I can’t use the kiosk to check in going or coming back into Bermuda. It’s an inconvenience and whatever the problem is, I hope they sort it out soon.
My old passport was due to expire at the end of this month. I have been on 3 trips with my new one so far.
It’s not hard people.
Has the whole BMD/GBR kerfluffle been resolved yet? Otherwise this public service announcement is pretty light.
You can completely forget the possibility of passports being printed locally. Modern passports are not just simple printed paper. They are high tech and required printing to produce them. Anyone that says they could be printed locally they are simply LYING. We might pay $100 for a passport. To bring in the printers and the technology and personnel to print locally for say, 45,000 passports might cost up to $1,000 per passport. You don’t think so? Well, look at the UK passports. We can do them for about $100. Yes, because they are printing MILLIONS of passports. PLP says they can be printed locally is a huge lie. They are not ‘simple’ printed pieces of paper. They are high tech. Come independence we could not pay for the ink and the paper!
