Photos & Video: Skills Development Graduation

[Updated with photos] The Skills Development Program is holding their graduation today [June 27] at the Arboretum to celebrate the accomplishments of the programme’s participants.

The organisers previously explained, “Under the umbrella of the Department of Parks, this training program was developed to embrace young people who are interested in learning about horticulture and the trade of landscaping. The Skills Development Program is a volunteer program that is in partnership with other agencies including the Bermuda Garden Club, which is the charity that we fall under.

Update 3.42pm: A Ministry spokesperson said, “The Skills Development Programme is held twice a year for a duration of five months each. Now in its fourth year, the training initiative was created to embrace young people who are interested in learning about horticulture and landscaping.

“The programme has provided a sense of structure and support for the young people involved and has offered the participants an avenue towards a real and tangible career choice.

“Following their training, the participants go on to find part and full time employment with local employers.

“This year’s graduates included Charles Ebbin, Matthew Gilbert, Kacy Greene Gladwin Johnston, Shalae Johnston, Leric Lightbourn, Ricardo Tucker and Troy Watson. Special recognition of participation goes to Eric O’Conner, Oliver Kennedy and Christoper Trott.”
