Criminal Records Office Temporarily Suspended
Recent tests have returned positive results “regarding the presence of asbestos containing material amongst some files within filing cabinets in the Criminal Records Office,” the police said today, explaining that due to this issue “no vetting requests will be accepted or processed at the Criminal Records Office until the issues have been appropriately resolved.”
A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] would like to advise the public that some recent precautionary tests have returned positive results regarding the presence of asbestos containing material amongst some files within filing cabinets in the Criminal Records Office.
“The safety, health and wellbeing of our staff and that of the public remains a main priority for the BPS.
“Against this background and out of an abundance of caution – to ensure the protection of our staff and members of the public – a decision has been taken to temporarily suspend operations at the Criminal Records Office until further notice.
“This is pending the completion of additional testing and related assessments aimed at identifying the extent of any potential and possible contamination beyond the files and cabinets already identified and a determination made on the scope of possible abatement works that might need to be undertaken.
“The BPS recognises the important role that vetting plays in employment, immigration and other related areas and sincerely regrets this necessary suspension of services at the Criminal Records Office.
“The public is being assured that everything is being done to restore services in a safe and healthy environment for our staff and the public in the shortest possible time.
“Therefore, as of today 6th July 2018 no vetting requests will be accepted or processed at the Criminal Records Office until the issues have been appropriately resolved.
“Anyone having submitted a vetting request before 2nd July, should contact vetting staff at 247-1513 or via email at vetting@bps.bm.
“The BPS apologises for any inconvenience this suspension in services may cause.”
If we don’t start being proactive we will become degenerative.
St. George the parish has No Police Stations, Town station closed after 2.5 million spent of renovating closed and locked up tight ever since, years now. New east end HQ in St. Davids closed to walk in service. Airport outlet closed. This is causing problems, hay that must be part of the new program. Keep the legal system busy.
Memories of the as of yet unsolved mystery cancer cell in Prospect 50 years ago that affected many Police officers and students from the Prospect Secondary Girl’s School come to mind .
There is asbestos roofing on many building roofs, private garages and sheds islandwide and getting it removed is super expensive and very dangerous since they cut sheets to a required size for disposal creating way more airborne particles than if it was left alone. Spraying water during the cutting process keeps the workers safer but when the water evaporates huge concentrations of the dust becomes airborne and disperse all over the place.
Don’t know that has to do with anything I said .
