Softball Playoffs To Get Underway This Week
The softball playoffs start this week with Docksiders heavy favorites to win the postseason in the A/B Division.
Docksiders rampaged through the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record. They won five contests by 15 runs or more. The closest game they had was against Hakuna Mata Charters when they slipped by with a 19 to 17 victory. They have a bye in the first round.
Chubb Kings earned the second seed and will get a chance for revenge against Blue Wahoos who knocked them out of last year’s postseason.
X-Bats take on Hakuna Mata in a #4 seed versus #5 seed. X-Bats would have won the B Division had it not been missing players down the stretch. Hakuna has been a bit of an enigma as not only did they have the closest game against Docksiders, they also scored the most runs of any club in any division, but then they had some memorable lapses.
Platano Power is the third seed and probably had the strongest run of any of the B teams down the stretch after making some early season roster adjustments. They will take on A Division side Paraquet Flyers who are seeded #6.
In the lower B Division postseason, Team Smokey plays FIU – Scared Hitless while the Sunglass & Watch Shop take on the Beach Bums. Team Smokey, named for the late Jevanie Fubler, is the number one seed followed by the Beach Bums, Sunglass and FIU.
The C Division is awaiting the one-game playoff between Buffaloes and Raggamuffins to determine the top seed. Raggamuffins are the top offensive team having scored 217 runs while Buffaloes were the best at defence, allowing just 108 runs. The winner will play fourth seed Shooters while the loser will take on third seed Super Express.
Undefeated Sea Venture Mini Me’s will play fellow corporate side KPMG while Athene Warriors and Butterfield & Vallis Sliders will battle it out. Sea Venture allowed the least amount of runs, 58, of any club this season.
Top women’s side Hardknockz will be tested by Corporate Division club PWC while fellow women’s team will try to oust C Division side Deliotte from the postseason. Both PWC and Deloitte did not qualify for the playoffs in their divisions. With Outback Skylights pulling out of the Women’s Division and second place Angels choosing not to take part in the postseason, it was decided to give the two fifth place – Deloitte and PWC – teams a chance to play.
All games will be played at Michael Preece Softball Diamond at Bernard Park. Playoff games are scheduled for Monday through Thursday starting at 6pm.
