A 47-year-old man pled guilty to nine charges this morning [Sept 17], including four counts of dishonesty in obtaining money from motorists, and three counts of attempting to obtain money dishonestly.
Troy Woods, from Devonshire, also pled guilty to one count of taking a motorcycle without permission, and one count of stealing a handbag.
The Court heard that was flagging down older motorists and then trying to obtain money from them, by alleging that they had caused him to crash his bike and he needed to get it fixed, leading him to be dubbed the ‘motorcycle bandit.’
Most of his victims were in their 70s, the court heard, and the various amounts of money he obtained from them ranged from $57 to $450, while the value of the purse and its contents was $370.
Crown Counsel Nicole Smith said Mr Woods had previous dishonesty offences and he was a “self-confessed heroin addict.”
Mr Woods said, “Can you sentence me now?
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo replied, “No, you are on remand. I’ll see you on the second of November.”
