Man Arrested & Court Appearance Expected

September 13, 2018

[Updated] A man has been arrested in connection with a “number of incidents where a man confronts drivers of motorcars informing them they were involved in a phantom collision,” the police have confirmed.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public that a man has been arrested in connection with a recent number of incidents where a man confronts drivers of motorcars informing them they were involved in a phantom collision. A court appearance is expected in due course.”

Yesterday the police said, “Members of the motoring public are advised to be vigilant for a male motorcyclist that is both pursuing and demanding money from road users.

“Recently a number of incidents have been reported to police that a male motorcyclist confronts drivers of motorcars informing them that they were in collision with his motorcycle, resulting in damage, or alternatively crossed into his path, causing him to crash and damage his motorcycle.

“He then demands that the ‘offending’ motorist give him money to repair the alleged damage to his motorcycle, or the police will be notified.

“Some motorists that have been confronted by this individual have complied with his demands, despite the allegations of the male motorcyclist being untrue.

“Police have commenced investigations into these matters and are extremely thankful for the support of the community for the information that has been provided to date.”

Update 5.50pm: The police confirm that the man who was arrested earlier today is a 47-year-old Devonshire male.
