‘Small Fire In Engine Compartment Of A Bus’
The Department of Public Transportation [DPT] confirmed that there was a “small fire in the engine compartment of a bus” on Monday evening, saying that the 15 passengers on board were “evacuated without incident,” and added that the DPT “will implement additional maintenance measures to ensure this does not happen again.”
As Bernews previously reported, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and police responded to the Mangrove Bay Road area on Monday evening after the bus reportedly experienced an issue with an engine.
A DPT spokesperson told Bernews, “The DPT can confirm that there was a small fire in the engine compartment of a bus Monday evening, which was extinguished with assistance from the BFRS. The bus driver was alerted to smoke from the engine compartment by a passing motorist.
“The 15 passengers on board were evacuated without incident. After a temporary repair the bus was safely driven to the DPT depot where investigation into the cause is underway. Based on the findings, DPT will implement additional maintenance measures to ensure this does not happen again.”

SMH. We have money for parties but can’t find money to regularly service the bus fleet. Buses are in dire need of a good cleaning as well. Dirty,Dirty Dirty, inside and out. It won’t be until someone gets injured before this government notices the crumbling bus fleet. Put money towards your people not parties all the time.
