Friends Of Hospice Hannover Re Walk/Run

November 22, 2018

Hannover Re and Friends of Hospice, the charity supporting Agape House, are once again partnering to host the “Friends of Hospice/Hannover Re Walk/Run” that features a 5k, 10k and ½ marathon run, with a 5k and 10k walk.

This will take place this Sunday, November 25th, 2018 at 7.30 a.m. at the Tucker Property on South Shore Road.

Hannover Re had been sponsoring a successful running event since 2008 and for the past two years, partnered with the Friends of Hospice “Walk to Remember” event to raise funds that support Friends of Hospice’s mission and mandate. The event also benefits the Bermuda National Athletics Association.

Proceeds from registration fee for the run benefit the BNNA, which represents, promotes and develops running and athletics programmes for Bermuda’s youth, while emphasizing fitness and healthy lifestyles. Proceeds from registration fees for the walk benefit Friends of Hospice, a Bermuda registered charity, whose mandate is to raise awareness of and provide financial support for Agape House, Bermuda’s only hospice.

The organizers encourage athletes, friends and families to come out for the event and support this excellent fundraising effort either by signing up for the event on www.racedayworld.com. There will be prizes for all categories of the event, including a number of door prizes.

Dr. Konrad Rentrup, CEO stated, “The running portion of this event is a great opportunity for people to prepare for race day weekend which is coming after Christmas in January. The run portion is sanctioned by the BNAA and will be timed.”

Dirk Hasselkuss, Chief Underwriting Officer, added, “Hannover Re sees this as our opportunity to give back to the community as well as to encourage a healthy lifestyle for the residents of Bermuda. Our staff will participate in either the run or walk or by volunteering on the day. As this is the lead up to the Christmas season it also provides an opportunity for some fitness preparation for the Christmas fare soon upon us.”

Robin Sidders, Interim Executive Director of Friends of Hospice, said, “Partnering with Hannover Re, who has held a successful event for many years and who are well-known for good corporate citizenship, helps to raise the profile of our “Walk to Remember”, an important event in our calendar for those who wish to remember loved ones no longer with us or to walk in support of those currently living with a serious or life-threatening illness.”

The event has also put together an impressive selection of draw prizes to encourage runners and walkers to come out and support this worthy cause.

“The event starts and ends at the Tucker Property on South Shore. Walkers and the ½ marathon runner will start at 7.30am while the 5k and 10k runners will start at 8.00am. We encourage all walkers and runners to register for the event on www.racedayworld.com or folks can also simply show up and register on the day at 7.00am for an additional $10 on the entry fee,” the organisers said.
