Marcus Samuelsson Visits Meals On Wheels
Celebrity chef, Marcus Samuelsson, of Marcus’ at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club, today visited Meals on Wheels to meet the volunteers and take part in a cooking demonstration.
Samuelsson was joined by members of the team from Marcus’, including Executive Chef de Cuisine, Danai Hongwanishkul, who is a frequent visitor to the organisation.
The team led a demonstration of how to cook Classic Chicken Gumbo and Roasted Broccoli and Potato, providing instructions and tips to help make the dishes as efficiently as possible. The food made during the demonstration by the volunteers and Hamilton Princess & Beach Club team will feed 215 people when delivered on Friday morning.
Meals on Wheels is a charitable organisation that prepares and delivers freshly cooked meals island-wide to persons who are incapacitated or are otherwise unable to prepare a nourishing meal for themselves and perhaps lack a family member, caregiver or friend who can help.
Marcus Samuelsson said: “It was a pleasure to get to spend some time with the incredible volunteers at Meals on Wheels who give so much of their time to others. We had a great time making some classic creole food that the Meals on Wheels diners are bound to love, low in sugar, salt and fat but full of great flavour.”
Alexa Petty, Operations Manager of Meals on Wheels, said: “We are so grateful to Marcus and the team from Marcus’ at Hamilton Princess & Beach Club for taking the time to help us out with meal preparation and demonstrations. It’s so informative and interesting to hear from professional chefs and we really value their insight.”
