Smith & Ohio Lose To Kentucky By Two Points
Amali Smith and her Wilberforce University [Ohio] Women’s Basketball team-mates went down in the school’s recent home opener by two points to Kentucky State University [KSU].
In a game that started as if to be a blow-out by KSU, became close at the end before KSU emerged victorious 60 – 58. KSU led 11 – 8 at the end of the first quarter, while jumping further out in the second, outscoring Wilberforce 23 – 12 to take a 34 – 20 lead into the half-time break.
Wilberforce would stage a comeback in the third quarter scoring 21 points while restricting KSU to just 13 and drawing to within six _ 47 – 41 _ with a quarter to play.
In the final quarter Wilberforce would outscore KSU 17 – 13, a scant two points short.
Nia McCormick led Wilberforce in the scoring department with 14 points, while Smith hit her only shot of the game which was a three-pointer, during the six minutes she was on the court.
