Procession Route For Frederick Bean’s Funeral

[Updated with video] The police are reminding the public of the temporary road closures and parking restrictions today [Dec 17] for the funeral of Frederick ‘Penny’ Bean, with the police to provide a full ceremonial procession as the former Police Commissioner is laid to rest.

A police spokesperson said, “Motorists, area businesses and members of the public are reminded that the following temporary road closure and parking restrictions will be in effect today [December 17th] for the 2pm funeral and memorial procession in remembrance of retired Commissioner of Police Mr. Frederick ‘Penny’ Bean OBE QPM [as outlined in the December 12th City of Hamilton traffic notice]. Temporary traffic management measures will also be in effect to allow for the passage of the memorial procession.

Temporary road closure:

“Church Street from Cedar Avenue to Parliament Street will be closed from 12 noon until approximately 3:30pm, or until the funeral cortege has departed.

1:30pm Memorial procession from Police Headquarters to the Cathedral:

“Leaving Police Headquarters heading down Headquarters Hill to Clyde Best Way, Clyde Best Way to Frog Lane, Frog Lane to Palmetto Road, left on Palmetto Road to Marsh Folly Road, west on Marsh Folly Road to Cedar Avenue, left on Cedar Avenue to Church Street, left on Church Street to the Anglican Cathedral.

Memorial procession from the Cathedral to St. James Church for interment:

“Traveling east on Church Street to Parliament Street, left on Parliament Street to Victoria Street, right on Victoria Street for a salute outside the Hamilton Police Station carrying on to King Street, right on King Street to Reid Street, left on Reid Street to Spurling Hill, Spurling Hill to East Broadway, East Broadway to Trimingham Hill, south on Trimingham Hill to South Road, South Road to Barnes Corner/ Middle Road, left on Middle Road to Somerset Road, Somerset Road to St. James Church.

Parking Restrictions:

“Until 3:30pm [or until the funeral cortege has departed] no parking of vehicles will be permitted on Church Street between Cedar Avenue and Parliament Street [north side only].”
