Cricketer Glenn Smith-Blakeney Laid To Rest

A massive crowd of family, friends, local cricketers, and elected public officials came out to salute and celebrate the life of ‘Master Blaster’ Glenn Smith-Blakeney as he was memorialised on Saturday.

First filling to capacity the Christ Anglican Church in Devonshire and later his regarded sports home of Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club at Sea Breeze Oval, Hamilton Parish, persons young and older communicated the memory and legacy of the star player regarded as among the best ever batsmen ever to grace the local scene and one who still holds a host of batting records both locally and abroad.

Known for his stylish yet destructive form of batting, but in actuality a complete cricketer in all phases – in the field and at the crease – Smith-Blakeney was hailed as a dedicated practitioner of his craft who was a committed team-mate, husband, father, son, friend and family man.

The church, inside and out, was a sea of vividness with attendees donning the various club colours, as they listened to several moving tributes to the man who rightfully earned the title ‘Master Blaster.’

The 45-year-old cricket star and dedicated father passed away following a battle with cancer.
