Public Invited To Pre-Budget Report Meeting
There will be a public meeting to discuss the Pre-Budget Report at 6pm on Wednesday [Jan 30] at the Heritage Worship Centre on Dundonald Street in Hamilton.
A Government spokesperson said, “The public is invited to attend a meeting to discuss the Pre-Budget Report on Wednesday 30 January at 6pm in the Goodwin C. Smith Hall, Heritage Worship Centre, 59 Dundonald Street. Hamilton.
“Following a brief presentation attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Curtis L. Dickinson, JP, MP and Junior Minister of Finance, the Hon. Wayne Furbert, JP, MP.
“The Pre-Budget Report provides some insight into Government’s plans for the next fiscal year, which will be expanded in the annual Budget Statement which Minister Dickinson will deliver to the House of Assembly on 22 February.
“Comments and suggestions can also be submitted to openbudget@gov.bm.”

Will the protesters come out for this? Is it ok for the PLP to do a terrible job while the protesters sit at home waiting for the next government to come in to try and help this island which is in a downward spiral? It really baffles me that these protesters have so much to say when its another party doing “bad”, but when its their own they go silent.
How are the PLP going to reverse the talent drain?
What plans are in the budget to reduce the size of the civil service?
Where is immigration reform? Why is the Dept of Immigration willfully harming business?
Interesting report, although given that the budget is in 3 weeks why wasn’t this done 2 months ago? Surely any consultation needs longer, and this feels like lip service.
A few points:
1 A PLP document that champions the effects of the Americas Cup. Eh?
2 Debt is now $2.465 billion, just $35m (which is days cash on hand) away from failing to meet the statutory debt ceiling. That means the tipping point where the government cannot function and pay bills. Its quite an admission and means we could be close to collapse.
3 Every 11 cents in the dollar received by the government services debt – terrifying
4 The document talks the right way – prudence, conservatism but since the PLP came to power in 2017 they have added $120m more debt. And pretty much all of the $2.46 bn in prior years (thanks Paula!)
Its all there to be read. I really hope the Government has a plan to increase external workforce. It may seem counterintuitive but read your economics books, it is the only way.
Without it, we will be broke in weeks and it might be too late.
