Health Student? Apply For Dr. Ball Scholarship
The Ministry of Health today announced that the application period for the Dr. Barbara Ball Public Health Scholarship has opened, with the application period set to conclude on 30 April 2019.
“The Ministry of Health awards the Dr. Barbara Ball Public Health Scholarship annually to students seeking careers or professional development in public health,” a spokesperson said.
“Scholarships are awarded for a combination of academic achievement, financial need and choice of healthcare profession that would be most beneficial to public health in Bermuda.
“Current public health priorities are allied health [rehabilitative therapies], nursing, social work, environmental health, occupational safety and health, post-graduate health economics, Doctor of Medicine [public health need], counselling, Doctor of Dentistry, dental hygiene, Clinical Psychology [doctorate], and maternal care.
“Applicants must be a resident of Bermuda, possess Bermuda status or PRC, be accepted to an approved programme of study in an accredited institution; and meet have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
“Dr. Barbara Bertha Ball was the first female physician to practice medicine in Bermuda, and a tireless champion for people’s rights.
“Following her graduation from Liverpool University Medical School in 1949, Dr. Ball returned to Bermuda in 1954 and devoted her life to those in need. The Government of Bermuda is pleased to recognise her by awarding scholarships to public health professionals in her honour.
