Cruise Ship Diverts For Medical Evacuation

The cruise ship Prinsendam diverted to Bermuda on Wednesday [March 27] to disembark an 82-year-old passenger in need of medical treatment after he sustained an injury while on-board the vessel.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “On Tuesday 26th March, 6:07pm, Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was contacted by Holland Americas Fleet Operations Centre, acting on behalf of the Cruise Ship Prinsendam, reporting that vessel is diverting to Bermuda for medical disembarkation of an 82-year-old male passenger who sustained an injury onboard the vessel.

“MS Prinsendam, was on route from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Madeira, Portugal, arrived off the east end of Bermuda late Wednesday evening. At 11pm, Wednesday 27th March, the patient was safely landed ashore, accompanied with a member of the ships medical staff, by pilot boat ‘St. David’ and then taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.”
