Dellwood Students Leave Early, Repairs Made
Dellwood Middle School students were dismissed at 1:15pm today [May 20] as there was no running water at the school, and plumbers were called to make the necessary repairs.
A spokesperson said, “The Department of Education is advising that Dellwood Middle School students were dismissed at 1:15pm today, 20 May, due to no running water at the school. . The cause of the water stoppage was due to a broken water line.
“Plumbers were called to the site to make the necessary repairs, and the water pump system was restored to full operational status at 1:35pm.
“To prevent issues such as this from reoccurring, the Buildings Section within the Ministry of Public Works has repaired the two defective water pumps and will be utilizing water from the school’s water tanks moving forward.
“School will resume tomorrow as per the regular school schedule.”
a march for the people’s campaign
well done O.B.A. Your incomplete or never-touched work…..disastrous….your grade….F!!!!
25-11 for two solid years. You own it.
Lol u have to be joking lol
LOL. Nice try “StraightForward”. Quite a pathetic attempt to divert attention from the obvious.
PLP had 15 years in power, OBA 4 years in power and now the PLP has been in power for another 2 – yet it is all the OBAs fault! You can’t make this stuff up.
You are literal proof that our education system has failed us! Or maybe you are friend or family of those that are in charge!
well done O.B.A.
Oh how pathetic of you to try and blame the previous government….your racist homophobic PLP are responsible for this ….and all other failures, like you
How many times are students sent home because of some sort of structural issue. I no longer have a child in school and I’m tired of it. They need to get their collective act together. SMH!
Or left home because of failed bus transportation.
Really? They dismiss the whole school so close to the end of the school year and exam time – over a water pump that took a few hours to repair!
Could they not have waited until a plumber arrived to confirm what the problem was and how long it would take to repair – first? I’m pretty sure that pumps break at the islands private schools as well. However, I doubt it that they would dismiss the whole school so quickly at such a critical time of year.
Amazing how private schools do so much more with a far lower cost per student. This government needs to either demand more of the teachers, principles, B.U.T., the Ministry of Education or scrap the whole school system and look at a model something like the charter schools where there are several niche schools, that focus on things like, technology, or the arts, or technical schools. These schools can be given an annual budget based on size and enrollment, but can freed of political influence, bias and all the bureaucracy the plagues our schools. Why not hand over a school to people with vision, and a love for teaching like those at the Impact Mentouring Academy. How many home schools do we have now? Private education institutions continue to grow in a country with FREE Education and a shrinking population. Enrolment in many of these charter schools tends to be highly sought after and they are better run than most government schools in the US and other countries. In all fairness there are still a handful of good public primary schools in Bermuda but most of us see a growing trend where parents save up and pull their kids out of public education as soon as it comes time to switch to middle school. .
I would love to see a poll done on how many MPs have their own children, and nieces and nephews enrolled in public schools. If they don’t have faith in the system – why should anyone else.
FACT – The school had been out since first thing in the morning 9am. Students and staff did wait 3 hours. The Health & Saftey Act requires students to be dismissed after 2 hours.
They run the schools like buses and trash. Cancellations, kids sent home, reduced service, constant excuses.
I don’t understand. The students were dismissed at 1.15pm but by 1.35pm – twenty minutes later – the water was restored to full operating status. Twenty minutes without running water shuts down the school? Good work by the plumbers, fail by by Education system.
Pathetic bunch!! really??
