Golf: Oliver Betschart Competes In STPGA
10-year-old Oliver Betschart competed at the Balcones Country Club, Austin, Texas on Monday [June 10], with the tournament serving as part of the Southern Texas PGA Junior Tour [STPGA].
Through his coach Mr. Kim Swan at Port Royal Golf Club, Oliver was put in contact with long time colleague and Texas open PGA tour winner David Ogrin.
Mr. Ogrin runs a PGA Academy out of New Braunfels where Oliver is training in preparation for the Optimist International Junior Championships which will take place in Miami in July.
As part of his training, he will be competing in several tournaments on the STPGA tour during the month of June.
Under warm humid cloudy skies and breezy conditions, Oliver, who at 10-years-old is the youngest in his age group 12 & Under age group, had a rough start shooting a 10 over par 45 on the front nine, then came back to shoot a 4 over 39 on the back nine to finish 14 over par 84 and 4th overall in a field of 10 players from the local area.
