Advisory: Cup Match Parks & Beaches Guidelines

The Government issued reminders regarding the use of the public parks and beaches over the Cup Match holiday weekend.

A Government spokesperson said, “With the Cup Match holiday upon us, the Minister of Public Works, Lt. Col. David A. Burch is issuing the following reminders to the community regarding the guidelines for usage of the public parks and beaches over the holiday weekend.

“As of today, Tuesday, 30th July, the Department of Parks notes that campers can start setting up their camping and picnicking equipment. Campers will be allowed to camp until Sunday 4th August. As a note however, all equipment and property must be removed by Tuesday 6th August or it will be disposed of.

“Public beach and park gates are currently open so that patrons to get their equipment and property into the parks and beaches. At 9.30 p.m. tomorrow, 31st July, Park Ranger staff on duty will lock the gates.

“Some further Cup Match advisories for the holiday weekend:

  • “Maintenance staff will be on duty collecting trash and cleaning bathrooms.
  • “Park Rangers staff will patrol the parks and beaches, enforcing the 1988 Bermuda National Park Regulations and addressing any other incidents.
  • “The Lifeguard Service will be on duty at Horseshoe Bay, Clearwater Beach & Turtle Bay.
  • “Staff assigned to control traffic flow and parking will be on duty at Horseshoe Bay, Elbow Beach Tribe Road, West Whale Bay and Clearwater Beach, Turtle Bay and Coopers Island Park & Nature Reserve.

Horseshoe Bay:

“Due to the popularity on Thursday 1st August, Horseshoe Bay will be managed as follows:

  • “Department of Parks staff in conjunction with officers of the Bermuda Police Service and Traffic Officers from the Transport Control Department and St. Johns Ambulance Brigade will be on duty.
  • “Traffic flow and parking will be controlled and once the parking lot is full access will be for dropping off only until spaces open up.
  • “There will be times when the parking lot is closed to all traffic in order to clear any congestion.
  • “Patrons are advised that the closure of Horseshoe Bay will be at 7.30 p.m. in order for the cleaning of the beach to begin for the use on Friday 2nd August 2019.
  • “Park and beach users are reminded not to block the gates as they must remain clear at all times for access by Department of Parks maintenance and patrol vehicles, as well as emergency vehicles from the Bermuda Police Service, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Services and the Bermuda Hospital Board.

“The cooperation of the patrons using the parks and beaches over the holiday period is appreciated. The Minister of Public Works and the Department of Parks staff take this opportunity to wish all park and beach patrons a safe and enjoyable 2019 Cup Match Holiday.”
