Charity Shops Appeal For Community’s Help
The Charity Thrift Shops of Bermuda are asking the public to observe designated drop-off times in order to avoid damage and theft to donated items.
A spokesperson said, “The Charity Thrift Shops of Bermuda have come together to ask for the community’s help. Most of the shops are finding when donations are dropped off outside the drop off days and operating times, bags are ripped open, items thrown all over the place, some donations are destroyed or taken.
“Sometimes animals have gone into the bags to do their business or if it is bad weather they get wet. When that happens unfortunately, we are unable to use the items donated because they have become unsellable.
“This has been an ongoing situation as you can see by the photos provided. We felt it was important to share this as we value the donations that are dropped off and would like them to be sold to help us generate much-needed funds.
“Below is a chart on all the Charity Thrift Shops and their drop off & operating times, plus what items they take:

“Just a couple of tips when dropping off donations;
- When packing your clothing or donated items to drop off, remember to pack them in bags that are light and easy to transport.
- It does help to drop off clothing for the current season. Most of us do not have a lot of storage space.
- When dropping off items that have more than one piece, please make sure that all pieces are included.
- Don’t forget to include remotes for any electronics.
- BYOSB – Bring your own shopping bag when you come thrift shopping!
