Seven Officers Complete Close Protection Course
Seven police officers successfully completed a four and a half week long Close Protection Officers’ course, conducted by the Bermuda Police Service [BPS].
A police spokesperson said, “At a 1:30pm Friday, August 9th ceremony held at Police Headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire seven police officers successfully completed a four and a half week long Close Protection Officers’ course, conducted by the Bermuda Police Service [BPS].
“There were three local police officers [two women and one man] on the course, as well as four male police officers from the British Virgin Islands [BVI].
“Though the BPS has provided this training to local officers over the years, Friday marked the first time that local female officers and overseas officers successfully completed the training.
Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons presented certificates and addressed the graduates, stating: “Hearty congratulations are in order for all seven officers on their achievement.
“It is especially pleasing to highlight Bermuda’s first female Close Protection Officers, as well as the first overseas Close Protection Officers trained in Bermuda from BVI. This would not have been possible without the hard work of the Training Centre staff, who are to be commended for their efforts.
“We look forward to hosting future specialist training opportunities for local and overseas officers.”
Great news for Bermuda. Well done BPS!
Close protection? Are they now being hired out as body guards having given up on trying to solve crimes
I read with interest this story this morning and I am sure there are a host of others that did not know what that course was about so I “googled” it.
What does a close protection officer do?
Close protection officers (CPOs), or bodyguards, keep clients safe from unwanted attention or physical harm. They are responsible for assessing security measures and providing discreet surveillance. Their work includes: Protecting their clients from threats of physical violence.
No where in the article does it state their definition of ‘Close Protection’. Who will they be closely protecting? I enjoy my personal space. That’s about the only privacy We have left.
