Some Bus Routes Resume At 1PM On Saturday

[Updated] “It is anticipated we may be able to start running a limited service on Saturday afternoon,” the Department of Public Transportation said this evening [Sept 20].

According to a spokesperson, “The bus routes have been assessed and debris clearing continues. It is anticipated we may be able to start running a limited service on Saturday afternoon. A further update will be given on Saturday at 12:30pm.”

Update Sat, Sept 21 1.03pm: Minister of Tourism and Transport Zane De Silva today stated, “I reiterate the comments made a few minutes ago by the Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Caines, ‘The following bus routes will operate from 1pm today: 2, 3, 4 [St. John's Road only] 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

“The Department of Public Transportation is working closely with emergency responders clearing the roads which will allow us to safely put more buses on the road. Our priority is and always will be the safety of passengers and staff.

“There are still trees and branches that overhanging onto roads, poles that are being secured and utility lines that are loose and low hanging. As these are fixed we will add more bus routes. We will keep the public informed over the weekend and into Monday. I ask for continued patience as we work to ensure a safe public transportation system.”
