Bermuda Championship Local Qualifier Round 1

October 17, 2019

In perfect weather conditions, Michael Sims posted a four-under par 67 to lead the 2019 Bermuda Championship Local Qualifier played at Port Royal Golf Course. Sims’ round contained 6 birdies and one double bogey.

Amateur, Jarryd Dillas lies in second place with a fine round of three-under 68. Dillas finished his round with a flourish, posting two birdies to finish right behind Sims. In third place, Camiko Smith overcame a slow start with a series of birdies in the middle of his round to shoot an even-par 71 on the Southampton course.

Brian Morris started strongly going three-under par after seven holes. However, Morris found trouble at the long, par-three eighth hole causing him to come back to the field. Morris’ final score of 73 has him alone in fourth place, leading a chasing pack of Daniel Augustus, Andrew Trott and amateurs Will Haddrell and teenager Kenny Leseur.

First-round leader Michael Sims said, “The course was in immaculate condition today with very little breeze. I played solid and made a couple of big putts on holes eight and nine that seemed to kickstart my round. I had fun out there and enjoyed the pairing, we all seemed to play well.”

The final round is due to start todat with tee times commencing at 10:10 a.m.
