Lecture Series On Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin
Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports Lovitta Foggo is inviting the public to attend a lecture series on Bermudian Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin, who is “widely credited with helping to change the course of history for blacks in the world of golf. ”
A Government spokesperson said, “On October 30, the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports, the Hon. Lovitta Foggo, JP, MP, is inviting the public to attend a lecture series on Bermudian iconoclast Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin.
“The lecture, which takes place at the Ocean View Golf Club, will be facilitated by Dr. Jeffrey Sammons, author of the book, Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin: Breaking Golf’s Colour Line in America, Canada, and Bermuda. Mr. Kim Swan JP, MP, will join Dr. Sammons for the public discussion.
Minister Foggo said, “History shares that ‘Kid’ Corbin was widely credited with helping to change the course of history for blacks in the world of golf. On October 30, we will host a public discussion at the Ocean View Golf Club to chronicle the life of Louis Raphael Corbin, who broke down barriers and pushed through adversity.
“The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs assisted in Dr. Sammons’ research on ‘Kid’ Corbin, and this week’s lecture series will offer significant insights into this Bermudian sports legend. We are encouraging interested individuals to come and hear the conversation, which we believe is relevant and important for our contemporary times.”
