Police: Public Be Vigilant For Motorcycle Bandit

October 16, 2019

The Bermuda Police Service [BPS] is advising the public to be vigilant for a male motorcyclist who has confronted car drivers claiming that they were in collision with his motorcycle.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a few recent incidents where a male motorcyclist has confronted car drivers claiming that they were in collision with his motorcycle – or alternatively crossed into his path, forcing him off the road – causing damage to his motorcycle.

“He then demands that the ‘offending’ motorist give him money to repair the alleged damage to his motorcycle. This same activity occurred approximately one year ago.

“The latest two known incidents occurred this week – one in the Collectors Hill, Smith’s parish area and one in the Verdmont Road, Smith’s parish area.

“Motorists are encouraged to report any collision to police where similar circumstances are involved, to avoid being taken advantage of by this individual.

“Any witnesses or persons with any information regarding these latest incidents are encouraged to call the main police telephone number 295-0011 as soon as possible.”

I’d strongly advise motorists to consider fitting dashcams, which provide a film record of what did or did not happen, and I hope someone is smart enough to get the number of the offending bike.
