Photos: New Boat Slip Service Launching Soon
Shakedown Bottoms Up Boat Works is the new revived traditional boat slip operation that is opening at Great Bay in St. David’s and is being run by well known charter fisherman David Barnes.
Mr. Barnes explains the Barnes family has been working towards completion over the last two years, working on the project while operating their charter fishing business, Shakedown Charter. With the final preparations taking place, he’s looking forward to lifting the first boat in the next couple of weeks.
Information suggests the original boat slip at this location was in operation in 1947 and the concrete runway leading into the water still exists, is in good condition and is being utilized.
Mr. Barnes said they anticipate hauling boats up to fifty feet in length and services include hauling, with the customer doing the work on the boat or they will provide full service for the customer that could include picking up the boat from its moorings, doing the work and returning the boat, all with licensed boat captains. Mr. Barnes mentioned the boat would be covered by insurance while it’s under their care.
Shakedown Bottoms Up Boat Works can be contacted by calling David Barnes at 335-1779 or email shakedowncharter@hotmail.com.
Well done Bounce!
” Mr. Barnes mentioned the boat would be covered by insurance while it’s under their care.”
I’m not absolutely certain but I believe that this is not a standard across the industry in Bermuda but it brings much peace of mind to owners while their vessel is hauled and being worked on.
Best of luck to you all .
If he has insurance then his policy will only cover damage to client boat if an operator error happend other then that client and their boat is not covered by his insurance. For the high risk of operations like this I would say every boat slip operator in Bermuda has liability insurance to cover them incase of an emergency…
well done David
Beautiful, and its in St Davids! Used to take my boat all the way to Somerset to haul her out. Happy for you byes. Looks like you have a ship shape operation going on. Looks like you could take your rig to another slip if necessary. Hope you have space to work on several boats, smaller than 50′, when the rush is on just before the season. Good luck
