‘Dusk To Dawn Rockathon’ On January 24
The Sandys Secondary Middle School PTA will be hosting a fundraiser titled Dusk to Dawn Rockathon beginning at 7.00pm on Friday, January 24.
A spokesperson said, “Sandys Secondary Middle School PTA will be hosting a unique fundraiser commencing at 7.00pm on Friday, January 24 to Saturday, January 25. The Dusk to Dawn Rockathon is a 12-hour event which will see members of the public supporting the school.
“In 2008, the school’s library was completely damaged. Unfortunately, the students have not had the use of a library. The current PTA Executive is determined to rebuild and create a multipurpose Library and Media Center.
“The library will be designed to not only enhance productivity and learning skills for students, but will be available for the community to use as well. The PTA is fundraising aggressively, as this venture is expected to cost approximately $300,000.”

“While the PTA has held other fundraisers, such as bake sales and skate nights, which were well supported, they know in order to achieve their goal of opening the library in September 2020, a larger event would have to take place.
“It takes a village to raise a child. The Rockathon is designed to include the public and have them interact with our students. Throughout the night and into the morning there will be food and baked goods on sale, raffles and activities such as minute-to-win-it games.
“The PTA is requesting businesses, organizations, corporations and alumni to bring a group and rock with them. There will be 5 rocking chairs for groups to rock together. The fee is $5 to rock for a 15 minute time slots.

“The PTA is hopeful that more of the business community will follow suit to assist them in achieving their goal to open the facility by September 2020.”
