The International Women’s Day Bermuda [IWD Bermuda] committee will be hosting International Women’s Day celebrations on Friday, March 6, beginning at 12.15pm on the City Hall steps.

A spokesperson said, “International Women’s Day is for celebrating the achievements of women, calling for gender parity and encouraging the youth and next generation to commit to equality, rally for action and raise awareness.

“This year’s theme is ‘Each for Equal’ – an equal world is an enabled world. IWD Bermuda believes everyone has a role to play in forging a more gender equal world.”

“To kick off the commemorative fifth-year event, attendees are encouraged to join in on a walk to City Hall from key departure points in Hamilton leaving at 12:00 p.m, led by Coral Beats drummers and headed to City Hall. A map containing the departure points can be found on the IWD Bermuda Facebook and Instagram pages.

“At 12:15pm, the ever-popular Zumba begins, followed by the official opening of the event at 12:30.

“Patrina “Power girl” O’Connor-Paynter will host the event, which includes a number of speeches, performances, and for the first time, IWD Bermuda will be recognising and awarding someone from the community with its ‘Women of the Year’ Award.

“There will also be various local female entrepreneurs at our Vendor Village selling food and goods during the hour-long celebration.”

Founder and co-chairperson Katarina Hoskins said, “This is the fifth year that we will be celebrating International Women’s Day and our focus for 2020 is the next generation. As a mother of two young boys, it’s important to me to lead by good example while also teaching my children about the role of women in our society.”
