Covid-19: Minister To Meet With Faith Community
Minister of National Security Wayne Caines will host a meeting with Bermuda’s faith-based community on Monday [March 16] to “discuss the Government of Bermuda’s Covid-19 preparation and guidance plans regarding large social gatherings.”
A Government spokesperson said, “The Minister notes that during the meeting, the National Security Ministry’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation Team [DRRM] will outline some suggested precautionary methods that have been recommended by health experts and professionals.
“Some of these include practising social distancing or conducting services without congregants, and alternatively broadcasting services online or via radio for congregants to view or listen to from their homes.”
Minister Caines said, “These are unprecedented and extraordinary times that we are experiencing as a Country, and our number one priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of all residents during this time of uncertainty.
“Our faith-based organizations can be a trusted voice in the community and help with the distribution of our official health and safety advice and guidance.
“So we are looking for their partnership in helping us to reach our seniors and our vulnerable members of the community. On Monday we will host a meeting with the interfaith community so that we can share some key information with them.”
“Monday’s meeting for faith-based leaders will take place at the Cabinet Office at 4.00 p.m. Members of these organisations should email jscott@gov.bm for more information about the meeting and to confirm their attendance.
“For the latest Bermuda Government official health and public services information and guidance related to Covid-19 visit www.gov.bm/coronavirus.”
You can’t have one rule for one, and one for another. The churches should close.
Faith based organisations are a trusted voice?! Lol wut? Religion is all based on a lie.
Let ‘em congregate!
In correct Religion is a lie based on Truth. God is very real however he does not want you to worship him as most Religions would have you believe. Religion was meant to be a great platform for Learning about the Creator and to practice the things we study and lean as a group however humans turning Religion into worship instead of learning.
Your a strong supporter/member of the UBP/oba don’t get mad because we don’t support you.
Sandgrownan and behalf of everyone (religious and nonreligious) tolerant and sensible… go and see a doctor ASAP. You appear to be suffering from a condition that is causing you brain farts, which in turn is causing you to talk a lot of $#!%. For the sake of all of us, go and sit down in a corner somewhere and when you get another one of those “bright sparks” take a deep breath and let it go.
That’s hilarious. What I want to know is why do faith based organizations get special focus…….?
It’s not special focus! The government is covering their bases! One would expect that from any government! With your mindset I’d expect you to ask “why is the government picking on the cruise ships”. If the local atheist had weekly meeting with a sizable attendance, then I would expect the government to react the same way… as they should. SMH
Atheists don’t need to have their views undergo some sort of group flagellation and confirmation bias. So it’s a moot point.
SMH Comprehension is key! Never argue with an idiot. They will they will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. I sir concede. LOL
You know they won’t close the churches.
As Rev Tweed proved, mates rates and some people are above the law.
Good. It’s a self correcting problem.
Frankly I think the government should close the borders now and not wait till it’s too late this island is too small even for one infected Bermudian.
Act now before it’s too late.
Remind me who the “titty milk” man was?
I couldn’t agree more. Advising the local population to avoid gatherings with 50 plus people whilst flights are still arriving in Bermuda with a quota of more than 50 passengers doesn’t make sense. Coupled with the fact that we can’t be 100% sure that returning residents or tourists visiting the island are virus free. Bermuda has only tested 12 people to date.
Is this more than 50 people? Will they practice social distancing at the meeting?
meeting in cabinet office- too small to practice social distancing….
Test kits test kits test kits asap
One more day of worship AND donation…maybe the churches will give some back to their parishioners who are going to need help in the weeks and months to come. I wonder?
Show care for your flock church leaders… you could start by protecting them from crowds.
I can’t believe this. We elect a government to make decisions on our behalf. Talk about isolating an electorate to benefit their future.
Shut the Airport down ! No Corona’s virus. No no no no no!
always working on keeping their voter base happy what part of social distancing don’t they get
I agree, close borders now!! Not necessary to rally up daily counts of cases of Coronavirus if it does not enter our borders. It is not developed, it is spread, therefore the weak links or entrance ways of this virus are through the borders.Extreme focus or watchmen posted at the borders
Now focus on schools
