Grocery Stores: Social Distancing, Senior Hours
The Government has “implemented safety rules to keep Bermudians safe and to enforce mandatory social distancing rules” at grocery stores, the Chamber has confirmed.
A Chamber of Commerce spokesperson said, “The coronavirus pandemic has reached Bermuda. The Government of Bermuda has implemented safety rules to keep Bermudians safe and to enforce mandatory social distancing rules.
“With this in mind, grocery stores will be observing the following rules, effective from 7.00am on Friday, March 20:
- 1. “A designated time for senior shopping: Tuesdays and Fridays – from opening until 9am. A senior is considered a person 65 years of age or older.
- 2. “Social Distancing: The remaining shopping hours will allow a maximum of 50 shoppers in the store at any time, depending on square footage, this may be less than 50.
- 3. “Stores will provide the available health/protections for staff and patrons.
- 4. “Reasonable Quantity Shopping: Grocery stores will support and continue to reinforce reasonable shopping quantities to shoppers. Mass purchases will be strongly discouraged.
“These measures are being put into place for the health and safety of the public and also grocery store employees. They are not, in anyway, related to a shortage of supplies or products. The Chamber of Commerce asks the public for their support in the implementation of these changes.”

How can my sister, a Bermuda senior living alone and who does not drive, get to the grocery store when the buses aren’t running? I live in the US so cannot be of help.
