RA’s Preliminary Report On Electricity Sector

The Regulatory Authority [RA] has published its preliminary report on the electricity sector after “conducting a comprehensive review to identify ways to improve the efficiency of the regulatory framework that governs the sector.”

A spokesperson said, “The Regulatory Authority has published its preliminary report on the electricity sector after conducting a comprehensive review to identify ways to improve the efficiency of the regulatory framework that governs the sector. Members of the public are invited to comment on the Report on or before 11:59 p.m. on June 2, 2020.

“The preliminary report is comprised of the RA’s initial conclusions and recommendations from its review of the electricity sector and public responses to a wide range of questions, such as:

  • Whether there should be public charging points for electric vehicles across Bermuda that consumers can pay to use [i.e. commercial EV charging points], and;
  • Whether community energy projects are beneficial for Bermuda.

“The RA’s main functions and objectives for the electricity sector are to:

  • Promote and preserve competition;
  • Promote the interests of the residents and consumers of Bermuda;
  • Promote the development of the Bermudian economy, employment and ownership;
  • Promote innovation, and;
  • Provide for the control and conduct of the grant, renewal, modification, suspension or revocation of licences for the provision of electricity.

“The public can read the preliminary report on the RA’s website by selecting the ’Open Public Consultation’ button on the home page and then submit comments on or before 11:59 p.m. on June 2, 2020.”
