Bulk Carrier Diverts Due To Sick Crew Member

The ‘Newseas Jade’ vessel diverted to Bermuda to disembark a 32-year-old crew member suffering an abdominal medical condition, with Covid-19 precautions taken throughout the medical transfer.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received an e-mail from Meyers Shipping Agents, representing the Panamanian registered bulk carrier ’Newseas Jade’ in a position approximately 500nm north west of Bermuda, on passage from Luga, Russia, to Port Manatee, USA.

“The ship is diverting to Bermuda to disembark a 32-year-old Chinese national crew member who has suffered an abdominal medical condition onboard the vessel. The Master of ‘Newseas Jade’ was given instructions to proceed to the Deep Draft Position, and is scheduled to be transferred to the pilot/rescue boat St David at 7:00 am on Saturday 27th June for transfer to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Covid-19 Port Health Precautions will be employed throughout this medical transfer.“
