Minister Releases Labour Force Survey Report

Minister for the Cabinet Office Wayne Furbert released the November 2019 Labour Force Survey Report from the Department of Statistics

“The Report contains selected economic activity indicators from November 2018 to November 2019. The public is advised to read pages one through eight prior to reviewing the data,” a spokesperson said.

“Highlights from the November 2019 Labour Force Survey Report include:

  • The labour force stood at 37,142 persons.
  • The working population reached 35,748 persons.
  • Among the working population 5,570 persons were underemployed.
  • The employment rate was 78.7%
  • The average hours worked per week was 41.1.
  • The number of unemployed persons stood at 1,394.
  • The unemployment rate was 3.8%.
  • The unemployment rate for Bermudians was 4.4%.
  • The economically inactive population was 17,003 persons.

    No wonder Bermuda is in financial meltdown with no chance of a recovery. Total employed 35,748. Total working in Government 5,053; Total working for a Quango/Statutory Board 2,595. Total working for Government/Public Sector.
    So 20% of all employment is Governmental. Yet it gets worse. The Premier said last week on his Facebook interview Government has been understaffed since 2009.

    Maybe the Minister for the Cabinet (whatever that entails) would like to explain how any of this is sustainable?
