June 28, 2020

[Updated with video] Bermuda’s Nahki Wells scored for Bristol City as they played to a 2-1 loss against Sheffield Wednesday today [June 28].

The club’s match report said, “City’s return to Ashton Gate didn’t go to plan as, despite Nahki Wells heading home his third goal in Robins colours, they slipped to a second defeat in a row.

“Connor Wickham’s free header gifted Sheffield Wednesday an early lead, with City’s task made all the harder when Massimo Luongo blasted the ball past Niki Mäenpää following a corner.

Update | The game highlights are below, Wells’ goal is shown at about the 6.50 mark:

“Garry Monk’s side looked arguably stronger for large periods, but City showed brighter spells particularly in the second half, forcing a way back into the fixture when Wells headed in from close range.

“Right-back Zak Vyner came off the bench to make his first club appearance for over two years but he could only snatch at the chance to pull City level at the end, while Lee Johnson’s men also had two penalty appeals dismissed.

“The loss keeps City 12th in the Sky Bet Championship standings, five points behind sixth-placed Cardiff City with the gap between the Robins and Monk’s men now just three points.”
