August 3, 2020

The Progressive Labour Party expressed their condolences to the family of Mr Donald Legray Jones.

A spokesperson said, “The Progressive Labour Party mourns the passing of Donald Legray Jones, a party stalwart, having joined the PLP in the 1960s.

“Mr. Jones, of Scenic Heights, Southampton, was one of the brave few who dared to stand tall under the PLP banner in the General Election of 1968.

“Known back then also as ‘Preacher Jones’, he was a candidate for the party at the age of 33 and at the time was considered one of the Party’s most dynamic speakers.

“Mr. Jones, in these early years was a carpenter and taxi driver and committed trade unionist. In more recent years he and his wife, Sherlyn, rarely missed a Party event.

“The PLP family honours this fallen soldier, his wife Sherlyn and their whole family.

“We will never forget the sacrifice many families made to stand under our banner for many years.

“We thank Donald Jones and appreciate all of the Jones family for their continued encouragement, commitment and support.

“Today, we offer condolences to his wife Sherlyn, their children, extended family and friends.“
