Taste Of Bermuda Drive-Through Experience
The City will host the annual Taste Of Bermuda at the Par-la-Ville car park in October, offering a “drive-through culinary experience” with the concept “designed for attendees to enjoy the entire experience from the comfort of their own cars.”
A spokesperson said, “The City of Hamilton will host its first major event since the COVID-19 pandemic hit Bermuda’s shores. The City Events team has been working feverishly to adapt its annual Taste of Bermuda event into a bespoke, drive-through culinary experience that will still adhere to the health and safety guidelines as mandated by Government.
“The event is set to take place in the Par-la-Ville Car Park, October 9th – 11th, and the concept is being designed for attendees to enjoy the entire experience from the comfort of their own cars.”
Event Project Manager, Jessica Astwood, said of the event, “We had to pivot our initial plans for this year’s Taste of Bermuda event because of COVID-19. With social distancing and mask-wearing a part of our every day life, we reimagined the concept of Taste of Bermuda.
“Globally, drive-in events have become increasingly popular. We now have the opportunity to apply this format to bring the Bermuda public together in a way that is safe for all to celebrate something we all love – food and drink.
“Our main goal is to provide a safe and responsible, food-centric, contactless event that will allow for an elevated experience in the wake of COVID-19 in the City as well as create opportunities for our City eateries.”
“The City of Hamilton has submitted an application to Government to hold the event as it will fall into the ‘50+ person’ category for attendance and hopes for a favourable response,” a spokesperson added.
“The public can expect the car park to be transformed into an experiential drive-through event space, featuring drive-by cooking demos, drive-in food-themed movies, giveaways, a drive-through photo booth and some international foodie celebrities checking in, virtually. The Taste of Bermuda weekend will be opened with a featured “Vegan Vibes” theme on the Friday night.
“City restaurants have been extended the opportunity to showcase their eats and be a part of the event. Entrance to the event will be via one receipt per car, for at least a $25 spend at any City eatery, anytime between September 8th and October 9th.”
Mrs. Astwood added, “We all have a duty of care to support our local businesses as they navigate the recovery process. It’s pretty easy to spend $25 at a Hamilton restaurant, so hold on to those receipts between September 8th and October 9th and we’ll see you at the car park.”
“Entrance to the event is only via car in an effort to maintain social distancing. No pedestrians or motorbikes will be permitted. Masks will be mandatory for entry and attendees will be expected to remain in their vehicles for the duration of the event unless visiting the portable bathrooms or to sit on top of their vehicles. A fleet of security personnel will be present to ensure the strict adherence to Government mandated safety guidelines,” the City added,
“The City has teamed up with The Brand Lion as its Graphic Design Partner for Taste of Bermuda. The public can expect to see eclectic promotional concepts that will tempt the taste buds in the lead up to the event.
“Additional information, including a schedule of events, will be made available as event details are confirmed, via the City’s social media channels and website.”
