‘We Are Thrilled To Announce Bananas Are Back’
[Updated] MarketPlace has announced they now have bananas for sale, noting that “depending on supply our hope is to offer regular availability of bananas.”
A spokesperson said, “After such a long wait we are thrilled to announce bananas are back. Through our partnership with J&J Produce bananas will be available at all MarketPlace stores, with distribution throughout the week, at 2.89 per pound.
“J&J Produce partnered with a farmer in Costa Rica to process the bananas specifically for Bermuda, which aims to create a cleaner product. This batch underwent the same stringent inspections as previous unsuccessful batches.”
Seth Stutzman, president of the MarketPlace group of companies, said: “We are so excited to have bananas back on island, thanks to our partnership with J&J Produce. Our customers have been asking and asking, we went though a number options and we’re excited we can finally deliver for our customers. Depending on supply our hope is to offer regular availability of bananas.”
Update 6.45pm: A Government spokesperson said, “A long awaited shipment of bananas has arrived in Bermuda! Although inspections are ongoing by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR], the bananas checked so far have been clean and pest free. Some of the examined bananas have already been delivered to local grocery stores.
“The bananas arrived in a 40 foot container in varying stages of ripeness. DENR expects that there will be plenty of bananas available for purchase and consumption from grocery stores and restaurants in the next few days.

Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban praised the importer for their efforts to get bananas back on grocery store shelves. “This has been a long process, but due to the persistence of the importer, Mr. Roland ‘Junior’ Hill of J&J Produce, we now have bananas back on the shelves for all to enjoy. While the bigger suppliers gave up on bananas, the farmer, Mr. Hill, did not and he succeeded. Kudos also to the DENR personnel involved in examining this shipment. Their meticulous inspection procedures are necessary, to ensure the safety of Bermuda’s environment.”
Fantastic! Now can we stop that Atlanta flight that keeps bringing covid in, and get back to normal!
Are people going to hoard them as they did toilet tissue?
If they do, they would have to make banana bread after they go brown.
So, we now live in a world where bananas are a major headline in the news!!
No, we live on an Island were we are not self sufficient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
