OBA: People Need Jobs, Not Digital Tokens
[Updated] “Bermudians on financial aid do not need digital tokens – they need jobs,” the OBA’s Dwayne Robinson said.
The “announcement about a pilot digital token programme may help streamline Government services and produce some efficiencies,” he said.
“However, it does not create the jobs that people need that will put actual money into their pockets. Before Covid, the economy under the Premier’s leadership was flatlining. It is now dying.
“Time and time again, the One Bermuda Alliance has asked to see the plan for economic recovery. Time and time again we get silence.
“The Premier needs to stop concentrating on personal vanity projects like this and come up with a plan that will give people on FA hope. The OBA proved that it can create jobs.”
Update 7.15pm: A PLP spokesperson said, “The OBA’s approach to jobs involved funnelling $100 million into a boat race where only 16% of the beneficiaries were representative of the majority of Bermudians.
“They promised 2000 jobs and lost 2000 jobs on their watch.
“They oversaw an economy that saw non-Bermudian jobs grow while Bermudian jobs disappeared. Bermudians need jobs, not OBA policies that divide and marginalize Bermudians.”
So, youngster, what will you do under the O.B.A. banner to provide jobs.’
How about the PLP spokes person explaining the accusations raised by the OBA not the failures of the OBA. Stop smoke screening.
This is disappointing and surprising commentary from Mr. Robinson.
I suppose he doesn’t believe that we should experiment with new technology to understand the potential benefits. I suppose he also doesn’t feel we should support businesses that choose Bermuda, make it their headquarters, have their executives here, hire Bermudians and offer to run a pilot initiative at $0 cost to the government out of their interest in supporting the island.
Denis, you have provided more information in your comment than Premier Burt ever has. Perhaps you can also list the number of companies who have made Bermuda their headquarters, executives and Bermudians to show how beneficial the initiatives have been? The public is kept in the dark which is why there is skepticism.
And I also don’t think that Dwayne Robinson is against anything bitcoin but as to why on Earth is Burt focused on this after so many years of nothing really happening when so much was promised is the point. This token or app or whatever it is does nothing for the economy or the Govt’s finances. We’re not leading the way in any innovated way. It’s a shiny new thing that Burt just loves and makes for a great photo op. No one still knows who StableHouse is as well. Can you explain that, Denis? Who are they? Is it you?
