50% Payroll Tax Break For Taxi Operators
“Recognizing the challenges faced by taxi operators, the Government will provide a 50% Payroll Tax break to assist the sector,” Premier David Burt said.
Speaking at last night’s [Sept 8] press briefing, Premier Burt said, “Among many sectors that were severely impacted by Covid-19 was the Taxi industry. The shelter in place and lack of cruise and air visitors severely reduced earnings in this industry. Though many drivers are back earning funds again, the volumes are not where they were a year ago.
“Recognizing the challenges faced by taxi operators, the Government will provide a 50% Payroll Tax break to assist the Sector. Accordingly, the annual charge of $1,000 that must be paid at registration will be reduced to $500.
“This is good news for our taxi operators. Our island is seeing an increase in visitors and with more hotels and flights there will be more people coming to Bermuda to visit and work, creating more business for our taxi drivers and our Economy as a whole.”
This sounds like buying votes in the midst of an election and using a taxpayer funded broadcast on Covid 19. Unethical is now the norm, when does it cross into illegal?
This is another example of disregard for election law. No major government announcements are supposed to happen until the election. Instead we have almost 3-5 photo ops a day.
Don’t be fooled people. This is an attempt to buy votes.
Exactly! Where is the REGULATOR/COMMISSIONER?
I feel for the taxi operators, all those who were self employed and all those who lost their jobs and all those who were severely impacted by the shelter in place decision of the PLP.
ah, electioneering at its best. The trump plp train just keeps on rolling.
WTF?!?? What about us small business owners who employ from 1 to 100 employees? The dividend tax is killing us!!!! We have no profit to reinvest and true our business!!!
Get a grip PLP!!! If the FDM or OBA repeal the dividend tax for small then you will lose our votes!!!!
Must be an election soon
I hate to mention this little inconvenience, but Parliament has been dissolved and no laws are capable of being passed until after the election.
Shhhhhh. Taxi drivers don’t know that.
Parliament is dissolved
How are non existent ministers making decisions?
Moreover, I’m perplexed that Bermuda is actually allowing visitors into the island, especially U. S. citizens. The spread of Covid-19 across the country.
Look for another wave people.
Moreover, I am perplexed at even the notion that Bermuda is accepting visitors, especially from the U. S. when Covid-19 is spreading across the country like a wildfire.
Look for another wave, people.
