Only One Storm Name Left For 2020: ‘Wilfred’
The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season was forecast to be busy, and that forecast has held true with 20 named storms already this season, leaving only one storm name left for 2020 – Wilfred.
Paulette, which recently struck Bermuda, was the earliest P named storm on record, and to provide a comparison, last year we were also struck by a hurricane in September, and that was an H named storm, Humberto, obviously much earlier on in the storm name list, which is in alphabetical order.
“In the event that more than twenty-one named tropical cyclones occur in the Atlantic basin in a season, additional storms will take names from the Greek alphabet,” the NHC website states, with the ‘overflow’ names set to start with Alpha, then Beta, Gamma, Delta etc.
NASA posted the image below today, showing the current situation in the North Atlantic, saying “4 Named Storms, 3 Developing Systems. NOAA’s GOES-East captured all 7.”
“There are no Q, U, X, Y or Z names because of the lack of usable names that begin with those letters. If more than 21 storms form in one season, such as in 2005, the Greek alphabet is used to name the additional storms,” USA Today report.
“For what is likely to be only the second time in recorded history, the National Hurricane Center [NHC] will have to use the Greek alphabet for additional storm names,” CNN reports. “In 2005, the NHC had to use six letters off the Greek alphabet to account for the record number of storms.
Earlier this week NOAA posted the video snippet below, saying, “In this view from NOAA GOES16, you can see 1 system spinning in the E. Pacific, Karina & 5 systems in Atlantic, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy & Vicky. This is 1st time since Sept 1971 with 5 named storms at once in Atlantic”
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30, and the 2020 Atlantic storm names are below:

In addition to this super busy hurricane season, the world is also dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, and in Bermuda’s case, we also have an election on the horizon, with the 2020 General Election set to take place in two weeks.
what about Quentin, Ursula, Xavier, Yoko or Zara.
Wilfred, That’s my brother in law and this month would have been his Birthday, so he’s coming to visit packing a punch and making sure we know he came by. In all seriousness, Teddy is no joke and look’s very dangerous, so let’s prepare Bermuda.
