Bermuda Championship Local Qualifier Round 1

October 14, 2020

The 1st Round of the Bermuda Championship Qualifier was completed yesterday [Oct 13] with excitement and drama.

“The light South Easterly winds and overcast skies made for fairly benign conditions. Despite the excellent condition of Port Royal Golf Course, playing the black tees mostly from the tips and greens that were running true and fast, the players had to perform at their best in order to compete,” a spokesperson said.

“Camiko Smith was well on his way after chipping in for an eagle 3 on the par 5 seventh hole to take the lead at 3-under par, but unfortunately, the 235-yard par 3, 16th hole took its toll and he had to settle for a final-round score of 1-under par 70. Will Haddrell is one shot behind at even par and Jarryd Dillas at one-over par.

“With nine players within 5 shots of the lead, including British Senior Open Champion Robert Vallis, and with the vagaries of Port Royal Golf Course, the tournament is wide open.”

The final round is due to start today with tee times commencing at 10:00 a.m.
