Double HopScotch Challenge To Be Held

October 15, 2020

[Updated] A New Life Charity will be hosting a fundraising event — the “Double Hopscotch Challenge” — on Sunday [Oct 18] at Dellwood Middle School.

A spokesperson said, “With the island emerging safely from the shadow of COVID shelter in place, organizations are looking to re-engage with the community and continue to be able to provide services for those who need it most.

“On October 18, from 1pm, A New Life Charity 1011 will be hosting their 1st annual Hopscotch Challenge at Dellwood Middle School. The event is based on the double hopscotch game that has started to go viral across the US since the beginning of the pandemic. It is a safe, fun, and easy activity the whole family can participate in and stay active even when sheltering in place.

“This event is a fundraiser for the organization, established in 2019 by LaKeisha Wolfe. The aim of A New Life is to provide support services for those living with disabilities. A New Life Charity will be growing into the Disability Centre of Bermuda and is in the process of opening Bermuda’s first Prosthetics Clinic.

Ms Wolfe said, “As a charitable organization, we create fun community based events in order to raise funds which are used to support the organization in providing services, location, and support in the community, as well as our ultimate goal of building the prosthetics clinic.

“We will be hosting regular fundraisers to assist in helping us reach our goals and provide services to Bermuda’s disabled community as a whole. Having a disability comes with many day to day challenges, with many of us having a hard time finding employment and have no other option but to sign on to disability and financial assistance. At times it’s harder for us to find the funds to get the assistance we need.

A spokesperson added, “The Hopscotch Challenge is designed to be a family fun afternoon beginning at 1pm, for ages 12-112, where groups will challenge each other in who is the best at hopscotch. Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Teams will be judged according to style, creativity, and performance.

“Due to COVID restrictions, there is limit of 10 teams of up to a maximum of 6 persons per team. Also keeping safety in mind, we are able to allow a limited number of public spectators, adhering to the set COVID-19 health and safety requirement.

“The cost for participation is $40 per team member. Refreshments will be provided for the participants. Applications can be obtained by calling 703-9912 / 777-2510 or emailing info@anewlife.org.

“A huge shoutout to the sponsors and supporters in making this event a success: DJ Fury & Entice Productions, The Marketplace Bermuda, BGA Wholesale Distributor, Dellwood Middle School, Ashley Nourish to Endure and International Sports Shop.”
