Bermuda’s D’Andre Wainwright played his first match with Billingham Synthonia and made a very impressive showing, scoring a hat-trick to help the team claim an emphatic 7 – 1 victory.

The team they were playing happened to be Durham City, who Wainwright previously played for.

The club’s match report said, “Synthonia returned to winning ways with a 7-1 win over Durham City including a hat-trick for debutant D’Andre Wainwright.

“Billingham started the game on the front foot and early chances saw Kurtis Howes bring a save out of Durham keeper Quinaceo Hunt followed by another shot from Ben Bielby which was saved and then a Joe Scaife-Wheatley free-kick which D’Andre Wainwright headed just over the bar.

“Durham tied the game up two minutes later with Calvin Payne receiving the ball on the penalty spot and prodded the ball home under Billingham keeper James Dawson.

“On the half hour a Scaife-Wheatley corner from the right was played to Kurtis Howes on the edge of the penalty area; his rasping shot forcing Hunt to push over. Billingham were soon back ahead though when in the 34th minute Ben Bielby and Ben Jackson combined well on the right and a ball across goal was met by D’Andre Wainwright to net from close range.

“Synthonia extended their lead two minutes later when Wainwright won the ball off a City defender and played in Ben Bielby who found the net with his shot from outside the box.

“A fourth for Billingham put them in control going in at the break when in the 44th minute a Kurtis Howes run on the left saw him play across goal for Ben Jackson to side foot home.

“There was no let up from Synners into the second half and a fifth goal was added in the 49th minute when a Scaife-Wheatley shot was saved by Hunt, only for the ball to fall to Ben Bielby to shoot in his second of the game.

“A sixth goal came in the 52nd minute with Scott Howes making an advanced run on the left snd crossing to Gary Redman at the far side who turned the ball back in front of goal to D’Andre Wainwright to fire in his second of the game.

“The scoring was completed in the 85th minute when D’Andre Wainwright claimed his debut hat-trick when he headed home a Scaife-Wheatley corner.”
