Covid-19: Seven New Positives, Now 21 Active
There were 2561 test results received and seven were positive for Covid-19 — all were imported by visitors and residents — so the island now has a total of 21 active cases.
A Government spokesperson said, “There were 2561 test results received by the Ministry of Health from 30th October through 1st November, and seven were positive for COVID-19.
“The new cases are all classified as imported.
- “One case is a resident having arrived on AA308 from Miami on 29 October who tested positive on arrival.
- “One case is a visitor having arrived on BA 2233 from London on 24 October who was tested due to onset of symptoms. This individual tested negative on arrival and on Day 4.
- “One case is a visitor having arrived on Jet Blue B6203 from Boston on 31 October who tested positive on arrival.
- “The additional four cases [1 visitor and 3 residents] arrived on BA 2233 from London on 27 October 2020 and tested positive on their day 4 test.
“Case isolation and contact tracing has begun for all cases.
“Bermuda now has 206 total confirmed positive cases. Their status is as follows:
- there are 21 active cases [all imported, consisting of 8 visitors and 13 returning residents], who are
- all under public health monitoring, and
- none are hospitalized or in critical care;
- a total of 176 have recovered, and
- the total deceased remains 9.
“The average age of all of our confirmed positive cases is 54 and the age range of all of our positive cases is from 7 to 101 years.
“The average age of all deceased cases is 74 and the age range is 57 to 91 years.
“The source of all cases is as follows:
- 95 are Imported
- 90 are Local transmission, with known contact
- 21 are Local transmission with an unknown contact, and
- none are under investigation
“Bermuda’s country status is “Sporadic Cases”. The seven-day average of our real time reproduction number is less than 1.
“The Ministry of Health wishes to remind members of the public that flu vaccinations are available for the month of November at the Hamilton Health Clinic on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm until 4pm. The public are advised that this will be a walk-in service and NOT a drive through like the one provided at Flu Express. Clients will not be permitted to park in the clinic’s car park. For further information call 278-6460.”
“The public are advised that on 1st November 2020 two visitors to Bermuda broke the requirements of paragraph 12 of the Quarantine (COVID-19) (No. 3) Order 2020 (‘the Quarantine Order’). The individuals willfully broke their quarantine to attend a celebratory gathering, prior to receiving the results of arrival COVID-19 test as provided for under paragraphs 9 and 10 of the Quarantine Order.
“Both pleaded ‘guilty’ to the offense. The Crown asked for a fine of $3000 dollars to be paid by defendants who appeared in court today. The defendants stated they didn’t mingle with anyone during the gathering. Their COVID-19 test has since returned a ‘negative’ result. The court has made the decision to fine them $2500 dollars each or face 250 days in prison. ”
The Minister of Health Kim Wilson said: “Although it is disappointing that two of our visitors broke their quarantine requirements this weekend, I commend the outcome of today’s court decision. The prosecution of these individuals demonstrates that Bermuda takes the protection of our borders and the health of our people extremely seriously. I greatly hope that further breaches will not occur and potential offenders are now dissuaded from such actions.”

This is getting out of hand.
DID our County NOT Country make millions last week ?? with all the tourist with the Covid. I think not.

Things like this concern me:

No symptoms on arrival but later shows symptoms – how long was this person infectious for before being tested?
As Covid again gets a stronghold in the US and Europe how long before we see even more cases here? Are we ready?
this has to stop now. They came to attend a celebratory gathering and did not mingle. Come on now. I am deeply concerned about this contact tracing and the aparent interim period between test results, let alone the massive increase in numbers from entering Bda from overseas, be they visitors or locals. Maybe its getting close to saying 8 day quarantine MONITORED 24 7 It is just not adding u and i force a massive out break.
So if they tested negative until their day 4 where have they been in that time. They need to change this because they are spreading it on our island that we have been so careful in protecting. No more large events please or else we will be back in lockdown and I and many others certainly do not want that. Also how did people manage to travel if they were positive?
They managed to travel because all it takes is a pre-test where you tested negative and then a lie about whether you are feeling symptoms or not. The touchless thermometers are rarely used correctly so it is easy to show up with an ‘appropriate’ temperature.
Most people are unfortunately selfish and if they’re sick a day or two before their trip they are still going to be doing their best to go, because their either ‘not wasting their money’ (despite almost everywhere offering refunds), going crazy from being cooped up or some other reason that also isn’t acceptable to anyone but themselves.
4 days is clearly too long for people to be wandering around at this point given the number of people who have tested negative on arrival and then positive afterwards.
It’s a tricky situation but they need to figure something out otherwise it won’t be long before we have actual community spread for the very first time. We went into FOUR weeks of lockdown, and countless other weeks of restrictions that demolished the economy and resulted in a host of issues when we didn’t even have any community spread and the borders were closed.
At this point we are in a worse place than we ever were and the countries that visitors are most prominently arriving from are doing horribly (to the point of needing to lockdown themselves again), yet we are continuing with the same inadequate measures.
Plus, only a $2500 fine for people breaking Quarantine? Give me a break, you saw cases of 70 year old men doing their allotted hour of exercise on the railway trail paying fines that size or larger.
It’s now time for our govt to require that all returning residents must quarantine until either day 4 or day 8 since most of these cases are being discovered on days 4 or 8. This is getting ridiculous!
I have to agree with you on that. As much as I hate the thought of quarantining, if you choose to travel, or MUST travel, this will be part of it.
Residents with no pre-departure test have to quarantine until day 8. Anyone testing on day 4 already had a pre-departure test (Either a visitor a resident that got a test before they came back). So what worries me is that the person that tested negative on day 4 but still developed symptoms means they had 3 negative covid tests and still ended up developing the virus. That’s scary.
In fact, in UK, you do your predeparture test yourself . So, it is very easy to get a negative result if you do not do the test properly. So, the safest way would be to quarantine everyone coming from UK for 9 days, until they receive the results of the 8th day. But for now, common sense would be for the travelers to self quarantine at least 8 days to protect the community .
We now have 21 active cases. Does anyone remember what the most number of cases we had at 1 time was back when things were at their worst? I honestly can’t remember (#2020!) but I hope we aren’t anywhere close to it with this 21. Something makes me think it was really high and mostly due to the cases in the care homes?? Perhaps?

If MAJORITY of our cases are coming from UK and it’s noticed, why are those flights still allowed to come in?????
Before the histrionics start, that looks like a high number of tests from the normal volume. So it sort of makes sense if we have 5 times the normal test volume (and I stand to be corrected on this but aren’t we normally reporting from 500 or so?)…then we’re going to have a higher volume of positive cases.
Also, we had many test reports that were zero…I’d like to see the total volume of tests that have produced the 206 positive number.
Also, doesn’t this talk to what a stellar job the government and civil service are doing with their contact tracing and data? (and you don’t hear that often from me).
Well the Plp got elected with most sayin they did a fantastic job with the virus we are now heading for another lockdown and hospitalizations by Christmas smart more riding their luck and using it as an election ploy
Greedy Burt trying to pump the island with tourism and not worrying about the virus like Bermuda is out of this world.
Bermuda is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world due to its size and hospital beds capacity.
With the airport being open there is always a high risk of spreading the virus in the country.
What do you suggest as an alternative? That we close the airport again?
