Ashley Bento Is Called To The Bermuda Bar

Ashley Bento has been called to the Bermuda Bar, with a ceremony taking place on Friday [Dec 4].

A spokesperson said, “Appleby is delighted to announce that Ashley Bento has been called to the Bermuda Bar. The ceremony took place on Friday, December 4 before Puisne Judge Nicole Stoneham.

“Ashley graduated from the Berkeley Institute in 2013 and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Arts and Science with Distinction from Bermuda College in 2015.

“Ashley obtained a Bachelor of Laws [LLB] at the University of Greenwich in London in 2018, graduating with First Class Honours. After receiving her LLB, she completed the Legal Practice Course [LPC] at BPP University in London Holborn.

“In 2016, she received a bursary from Appleby. In 2018, she was one of the recipients of Appleby’s Legal Education Award and training contract. Ashley undertook her pupillage with Appleby from September 2019 to September 2020.

“She spent the first six months of her two-year training at the firm in the Insurance team under the mentorship of Counsel Matthew Carr and the following 6 months in the Corporate team under the mentorship of Partner Jerome Wilson.”

“Ms Bento thanked Matthew Carr and Jerome Wilson ‘for impacting my legal development by providing me with a challenging, yet rewarding first-year and making me become more confident in writing, speaking to clients and being able to explain Bermuda law in a simplistic manner.’”

Ms Bento said, “Matthew and Jerome, your work ethic, dedication to clients, keen attention to detail and multi-tasking skills are note-worthy and are skills I wish to develop and hone throughout my legal career.”

The spokesperson said, “Ashley also gave special mention to Partner Clive Langley ‘for always taking the time to chat with me and for his endless encouragement and continued support.’”

Partner Jerome Wilson said, “It was a pleasure to work with Ashley during her training period. The spokesperson said, “Ashley is presently in her third seat in the Dispute Resolution team under the mentorship of Counsel Hannah Tildesley.”
