BASA Short Course Long Standing Records
As the year draws to a close, we take a look at Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association records that have stood for more than a decade.
Today we take a look at the short course records.
Jennifer Smatt’s women’s 200m breaststroke time of 2:35.27 has stood for 28 years as it was set back in June 1992.
Kiera Aitken holds the women’s 100m freestyle record time of 55.22, set back on November 28th, 2009 during the Spanish Championships in Castellón, Spain.
Aitken also holds the women’s 200m freestyle record she set back on December 5th, 2010 during the Spanish Championships in Palma, Spain touching the wall in a time of 2:02.14.
The women’s 50m backstroke record holder with a time of 27.72 is Aitken, which came during the Spanish Championships in Castellón, Spain on November 28th, 2009.
Aitken is the women’s 100m backstroke record holder with a time of 59.31, set back on November 26th, 2009 during the Spanish Championships in Castellón, Spain.
Aitken is also the women’s 200m backstroke record holder with a time of 2:09.09 set back on November 29th, 2009 during the Spanish Championships in Castellón, Spain.
The women’s 200m individual medley record time of 2:19.29 is held by Aitken, which she set back on June 21st, 2009 during the Bermuda Nationals in Bermuda.
Jason Krupp is the holder of the longest men’s record which is in the 200m butterfly touching the wall in a time of 2:08.70 set back in February 1991.
Jason Mastalir is the men’s 400m freestyle record holder with a time of 3:59.61 back on February 13th, 2009 at the Canada Eastern Championships in Halifax, Canada.
Mastalir also holds the men’s 800m freestyle record when he touched the wall in a time of 8:18.23 on March 12th, 2009 during the Canada Spring Nationals in Toronto, Canada.
The men’s 1500m freestyle record stands at 16:11.50 achieved by Mastalir back on April 24th, 2009 at a Provincial Section Meet in Quebec City, Canada.
Ronald Cowen is the men’s 100m backstroke record holder with a time of 58.55 set back on June 7th, 2002.
Mastalir is the men’s 200m backstroke record holder with a time of 2:04.59 which was achieved during the Canada Eastern Championships in Halifax, Canada, back on February 14th, 2009.
The men’s 100m butterfly record holder with a time of 54.53 set back in April 2000, by Stephen Fahy.
Back on March 23rd, 2000, Fahy set the new men’s 200m individual medley record time of 2:01.85.
Graham Smith set the new men’s 400m individual medley record back on June 13th, 2003 clocking 4:36.53.
The men’s 4x50m freestyle relay stands at 1:36.88 set by Ronald Cowen, Graham Smith, Michael O’Connor, and Roy-Allan Burch back on July 1st, 2003 during the Island Games in Guernsey.
Ian Raynor, Michael Cash, Craig Morbrey, and Geri Mewett are the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay record-holders clocking a time of 3:26.99 set back on June 21st, 1992, during the Bermuda Nationals.
The men’s 4x50m medley relay record time stands at 1:48.17, set by Roy-Allan Burch, Ronald Cowen, Michael O’Connor, and Graham Smith, during the Island Games in Guernsey back on June 30th, 2003.
Burch, Cowen, O’Connor, and Smith are also the men’s 4x100m medley relay record holders with a time of 3:57.97, which was set during the Island Games in Guernsey on July 2nd, 2003.
