Dockyard Hosting ‘Smaller Festive Attractions’

Large annual Christmas events in Dockyard have been cancelled due to Covid-19, but a variety of smaller festive attractions are still set to go ahead – with booking in advance advised where possible.

West End Development Corporation said that the annual Tree Lighting, Santa’s Workshop, Carols with the Dolphins, and the Festival of Trees competition will not be held this year.

“Having to cancel these large events is extremely disappointing as they are increasingly popular year after year drawing large crowds while promoting a festive and lively atmosphere that allows our Dockyard community of entrepreneurs, artists and business owners to engage with the wider community, but due to the sheer size of these events we realise it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to go ahead with them this year,” said Stephanie Rodill, WEDCO’s Marketing & Events Manager.

She added: “However, while the large-scale events are not happening this year, some of the individual businesses at Dockyard are planning events which will be much smaller in scale or in-store sales on gift giving products and services. The entire Dockyard community is committed to following all safety protocols and guidelines. We encourage all of our Dockyard guests to be safe, practice physical distancing, wear your masks properly and wash your hands often when visiting us.”

On Sunday, December 20, 2020, from 12pm to 5pm the Clocktower Mall will host a Shopping Day where participating stores will offer a discount on purchases, Café Amici will offer a 10% discount on meals, Nannini Haagen Dazs will offer light refreshments, and Mr. Fosco Nannini will host a book signing of his new book Il Classico Boss.

The Frog & Onion will still be hosting lunch with Santa from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday, December 6, 13, and 20 with live music from 1pm to 4pm for diners. Santa will require physical distancing and masks to be worn. The Frog and Onion is also continuing its Quiz nights every Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with Mike Bishop. Reservations are strongly recommended, and all health protocols must be followed.

The Taste of Bermuda: Christmas Edition by Frog & Onion, The Bermuda Craft Market and the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard will also take place on Sundays in the Atrium and just out front of the atrium if weather permits from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. Tastings of cassava pie, fish chowder and beer will be available along with local crafters and artisans selling their creations. Artists will also be doing live demonstrations each week.

The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard will be hosting Storytime on Sunday, December 6, 13 and 20 at 2pm. Each week will feature a different Bermuda book for children to enjoy.

On December 13, 2020, the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard will also be hosting the Bermuda Plein Air Painters. If anyone would like to join for on location painting in Dockyard, he or she can call 534-2809 for more information.

Dolphin Quest will also be hosting Christmas themed dolphin demonstrations on Sunday, December 6, 13, and 20 at 1.30pm. Admission to the Museum is required.

Locked on the Rock’s Holiday Dash Scavenger Hunt will take place on Sunday, December 6, from 11am to 3pm and those interested can sign up online here. The grand prize for the LOTR Holiday Dash Scavenger Hunt is a Prince Alfred Terrace Staycation donated by WEDCO.

Ms Rodill added: “WEDCO has also started a 24 days of Christmas campaign on Dockyard’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Each day will feature a product or special/discount offer for an item or service that would make an ideal Christmas gift. We want to do everything we can to assist our Dockyard businesses in getting the word out on their incredible products, services, and sale offerings.”
