Temporary Unemployment Benefit For Workers

“Persons who have been put out of work in bars/clubs will be eligible for up to $1,000 which will be paid electronically,” Premier David Burt said, adding they they will also provide support for businesses who have been ordered to close.

This follows after the Government directed that all indoor bars and clubs close effective Tuesday, December 8th, with the measure taken due to a recent spike in confirmed Covid-19 cases, with the island recording 70 new cases already this month,

Speaking at last night’s [Dec 8] press briefing, Premier Burt said, “All persons put out of work will be eligible for assistance, and the Minister of Finance has indicated that the temporary unemployment benefit will be made available, again, persons who have been put out of work in bars and clubs will be eligible for up to $1,000 which will be paid, electronically.

“Additionally, support for businesses such as restaurants, who have seen a decline in business, in addition to bars and clubs, who have been ordered to close, especially at this time of year, which is some of the business that will need support. The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation will provide grant support during this difficult two week period.

“The details on the grant support that will be provided by the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation is not fully complete, but will be announced before the end of the week, so that businesses can avail themselves of support, which they need for their overheads at a time when they are not going to be able to make any income.

“So we will support the employees who have been put out of work for these two weeks, and we will support the businesses to make sure that the overheads and expenses which they have to meet can be met during this time.“

    Unreal! Can’t keep carrying these people PLP! At least have them do community service to get a payout? Us working people can’t keep paying for this!

      You selfish person! These are working people who had jobs and are now unemployed to protect miserable tossers like yourself. PLP has plenty on its payroll sitting about doing nothing for an eternity. Complain about them!

    Let’s see you people complain if Government helps an complain if they don’t. How about we complain about Companies who have hard working taxes payers but their deductions get taken but never paid. Let’s talk about delivery personnel that are making $1000 plus a week but still collecting F/A an not paying Government taxes. PLP is out here still making sure people have some type of income an you have some greedy dishonest company owners screwing their employees out of pension, social insurance, an health insurance an you want to complain that Government is out here helping people. Why don’t you go make a list of companies that owe Government hundreds of thousands in taxes an get them pay.

    what about people who are in quarentine waiting for results that were supposed to be given in 12 to 24 hrs but 4 days still waiting ,some of us really need to get to work ,we have bills ,and this poor exscuse for a gov cant even get results for bermudians makes me wonder if they are even making sure that the visitors that are pos are just being able to venture around the island infecting all of us ,just because of money sad bermuda wake up
